Spotlight: Vonne Wilson

When Medicare Open Enrollment begins each fall, Vonne Wilson’s days become even busier. As a Program Specialist, IRNA Specialist, and Certified Benefits Counselor with ATCOG’s Area Agency on Aging, she helps older adults navigate the complex world of Medicare, ensuring they understand their options and get the support they need. “What I like most about my job is assisting our clients,” she said. “That includes helping them get approved for one of the many programs available and assisting clients through the Medicare Maze.”

Vonne joined ATCOG in August 2018 and serves clients across the nine counties in ATCOG’s aging service area. Her workday can include everything from counseling seniors on benefits to supporting younger clients with disabilities through the Aging and Disability Resource Center. “I assist clients in the office or over the phone, monitor one of the senior congregate meal sites that we have throughout our nine counties, or do outreach and networking,” she explained.

In addition to one-on-one counseling, Vonne and the AAA team host quarterly Lunch and Learn events for seniors aged 60 and above. Each event brings together sponsors, speakers, and vendors to share valuable resources and information over a community meal.

Outside of work, Vonne enjoys travel and adventure. One of her favorite vacations was to Cancun, where she experienced “a great diversity of food with an entertaining downtown as well as an ultimate adventure which included horseback riding, four-wheeler riding, and zip lining.”

And if her life were ever made into a movie, Vonne already knows who she’d cast to play her—Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.

Through her dedication and compassion, Vonne continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of seniors and individuals with disabilities across Northeast Texas.
