The Ark-Tex Council of Governments (ATCOG) is now accepting applications for Regional Ombudsman, Announcement #1706. The location for the position will be in Texarkana, Texas, with extensive travel throughout the region. The full-time salary is $3,044.33 per month. This position is responsible for administering the Nursing Home Ombudsman Program in the ATCOG service area, including serving as a liaison between nursing homes and their residents and families, and coordinating the Volunteer Ombudsman and Intern programs.

EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s degree in public administration, gerontology, psychology, sociology, social work, or a related field plus at least one (1) years of relevant experience; OR high school graduation, or its equivalent, plus at least three (4) years of progressively responsive experience in programs or services related to the elderly; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Knowledge of aging programs and services; local, state and federal regulations relating to human and social services programs for the elderly, including long-term care; aging contracts and grants preparation and analysis; planning techniques; general office policies and procedures; and computer operations, including database programs.
Skills/Abilities to demonstrate proficiency in operations using a variety of software, including word processing and spreadsheet; establish and maintain effective working relationships with elderly citizens, citizens groups, ombudsman volunteers, governmental officials, and the general public; demonstrate proficiency in both oral and written communication; work independently; plan and complete projects; and perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations. Ability to see, hear, reach, stoop, bend, and lift and carry up to 30 pounds required.
Additional Requirements: Must obtain Certification as Ombudsman by the Department of Aging and Disability Services. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license subject to an approved motor vehicle report and reliable transportation with valid proof of insurance for travel in ATCOG region.
