The Area Agency on Aging creates and maintains a coordinated network of health and social services for older adults and family caregivers. We provide services and resources that help older adults maximize their quality of life and live as independently as possible. By providing information, education, and direct services, we help individuals meet basic needs and make informed decisions.
The Criminal Justice Program assists local governments and non-profit entities with the development of programs and projects designed to address particular crime related community problems. The program also coordinates the grant application review and priority setting process required by the Criminal Justice Division (CJD) of the Governor’s Office, which provides funding for the program.
The Ark-Tex Regional Development Company (ATRDC) is an SBA Priority Certified Development Company established in 1982 specializing in financing for owner occupied commercial real estate projects. Our organization is very familiar with the hotel/motel industry in Texas and has extended SBA 504 financing for projects.
From policy documents and strategies to help the region attain clean air standards to teaching kids to clean up their neighborhoods, ATCOG’s commitment to the environment is an important component of ATCOG’s day-to-day operations. Environmental Program focuses on two very important regional issues: Air Quality and Waste.
The ATCOG Housing Choice Voucher Program is a federally-funded program for providing housing assistance to very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford healthy and safe housing in the private market. Housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual directly to a landlord or property owner. Participants in the program are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments. The participant has the freedom to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program.
The Public Safety Program is significantly involved in several aspects of public safety planning, including: Emergency Communications, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, planning & training, and grant management for several major federal grant programs.
The Special Projects Division was created to work with any special programs that arise for ATCOG that are not included in the other grant programs and to write grants for member cities, counties, school districts, fire departments, and other entities in our ten-county region. Below is a synopsis of some of the ongoing projects within ATCOG.
Ark-Tex Council of Governments Rural Transit District (TRAX) provides low-cost transportation for residents of Bowie, Cass, Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Lamar, Morris, Red River and Titus counties from their homes or other designated pick up points to meet transportation needs. This rural transportation network does not provide intercity transportation within Nash, Texarkana, or Wake Village.
